Sadly, we had to leave the North Island and take the Interislander ferry from Wellington. It is a nice cruise, which takes approximately three hours, passing many small bays before reaching Picton.
Leider mussten wir die Nordinsel verlassen und die Interislander-Fähre von Wellington nehmen. Es ist eine schöne Fahrt, die etwa drei Stunden dauert, vorbei an vielen kleinen Buchten, bevor wir Picton erreichen.
As soon as we had solid ground beneath our feet again, we headed straight to the next filming location. The Pelorus River was used for the barrel scene in the second Hobbit. While it is possible to do rafting on it, we simply checked out the place where the dwarves and Bilbo meet Bard.
Sobald wir wieder festen Boden unter den Füssen hatten, machten wir uns direkt auf den Weg zum nächsten Drehort. Der Pelorus Fluss wurde für die Fass-Szene im zweiten Hobbit verwendet. Es ist zwar möglich, auf ihm zu raften, aber wir haben uns nur die Stelle angesehen, an der die Zwerge und Bilbo Bard treffen.
On our way to Motueka lies a very special store. The jeweller Jens Hansen created the one ring and crafted 40 copies of it for the movies. One of which we got to hold. If you are wondering why it is that big: it was the copy used for the close up in the first movie when Frodo loses the ring in the snow.
Sadly, Jens Hansen passed away but his grand work is carried on by his children and some kind employees. Their charm can (almost) match the allure of the one ring.
Auf unserem Weg nach Motueka liegt ein ganz besonderer Laden. Der Juwelier Jens Hansen hat den einen Ring entworfen und 40 Exemplare für die Filme angefertigt. Eines davon durften wir in die Hand nehmen. Falls ihr euch fragt, warum er so gross ist: Es war das Exemplar, welches für die Nahaufnahme im ersten Film verwendet wurde, als Frodo den Ring im Schnee verliert.
Leider ist Jens Hansen verstorben, aber sein grossartiges Werk wird von seinen Kindern und freundlichen Mitarbeitern weitergeführt. Ihr Charme kann (fast) mit der Anziehungskraft des einen Rings mithalten.
Motueka is a small town at the edge of the Abel Tasman national park. We stayed in a cute B&B with a lovely garden, in which we were able to see the Milky Way at night.
Motueka ist eine kleine Stadt am Rande des Abel Tasman Nationalparks. Wir wohnten in einem hübschen B&B mit einem schönen Garten, in dem wir nachts die Milchstrasse sehen konnten.
