Te Anau

We leave Queenstown for the southern most point of our journey: Te Anau.

Wir verlassen Queenstown und fahren zum südlichsten Punkt unserer Reise: Te Anau.

Te Anau is a great access point to the fjords of Aotearoa/New Zealand but inherently exposed to rough and changing weather. From completely foggy to beautiful skies we experienced it all. The town itself is situated nicely on the shores of Lake Te Anau and is a quiet little community with even a small bird sanctuary, which takes in hurt animals.

Te Anau ist ein grossartiger Zugang zu den Fjorden von Aotearoa/Neuseeland, aber deshalb von Natur aus rauem und wechselndem Wetter ausgesetzt. Von völlig neblig bis hin zu strahlend blauem Himmel haben wir alles erlebt. Die Stadt selbst liegt schön am Ufer des Sees Te Anau und ist eine ruhige kleine Gemeinde mit sogar einer kleinen Vogelauffangstation.

Te Anau does not only offer access to the fjords but of course, it lies close to several filming locations. Despite the assurance that we will have a horrible experience due to bad weather, we went ahead with our booked tour by Cheeky Kiwi Travels. Although the weather was not too good, we had an awesome time!

While the aerial shots of the dead marshes were shot around Queenstown, we saw the marsh in which they filmed close up scenes with the actors. Also, the Waiau river was the last river we had to see to complete the Anduin locations.

Te Anau bietet nicht nur Zugang zu den Fjorden, sondern liegt natürlich auch in der Nähe mehrerer Filmdrehorte. Trotz der Versicherung, dass wir aufgrund des schlechten Wetters ein schreckliches Erlebnis haben würden, haben wir unsere bei Cheeky Kiwi Travels gebuchte Tour durchgezogen. Obwohl das Wetter nicht allzu gut war, hatten wir eine grossartige Zeit!

Während die Luftaufnahmen der Toten Sümpfe in der Umgebung von Queenstown gedreht wurden, sahen wir den Sumpf, in dem sie Nahaufnahmen mit den Schauspielern drehten. Ausserdem war der Waiau-Fluss der letzte Fluss, den wir sehen mussten, um die Anduin-Drehorte zu vervollständigen.

One very distinctive location is on our way to the Mavora lakes. This spot is where Gandalf calls Shadowfax after leaving Fangorn. It is also the place they filmed the attack of the Rohirim on the orcs. The remains of which can be seen here in the last picture.

By the way, did you know, after Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn encountered the battle field Viggo Mortensen broke his toe when kicking an orc helmet, hence adding the very authentic scream to the scene.

Ein sehr markanter Ort liegt auf dem Weg zu den Mavora-Seen. An diesem Ort ruft Gandalf Shadowfax, nachdem er Fangorn verlassen hat. Es ist auch der Ort, an dem der Angriff der Rohirim auf die Orks gefilmt wurde. Die Überreste davon sind hier auf dem letzten Bild zu sehen.

Übrigens, wusstet ihr, dass sich Viggo Mortensen, nachdem Legolas, Gimli und Aragorn auf das Schlachtfeld gestossen sind, den Zeh gebrochen hat, als er einen Orkhelm trat, wodurch der Szene der sehr authentische Schrei beigefügt wurde.
