Best known from the Netflix hit movie “The Royal Treatment”, the Otago Peninsula right beside Dunedin is another one of our favourite places (besides LotR locations). On it stands the only castle in Aotearoa/New Zealand. It was built in 1871 by William Larnach. After his suicide the castle was used over the years as a recreation home for nuns, a hospital and a gallery before it was left to decay as well as fall victim to vandalism. Finally, in 1967, the Baker family bought it. Since then they invest time and funds to restore the Larnach Castle to former glory with authentic vintage furniture, as seen in “The Royal Treatment”. We even drove the same exact road as they do in the movie!
Am besten bekannt aus dem Netflix-Hit “The Royal Treatment”, ist die Otago-Halbinsel direkt neben Dunedin ein weiterer unserer Lieblingsorte (neben den Drehorten von LotR). Auf ihr steht das einzige Schloss in Aotearoa/Neuseeland. Es wurde 1871 von William Larnach erbaut. Nach seinem Selbstmord wurde das Schloss im Laufe der Jahre als Erholungsheim für Nonnen, als Krankenhaus und als Galerie genutzt, bevor es dem Verfall überlassen wurde und auch dem Vandalismus zum Opfer fiel. Schließlich kaufte es 1967 die Familie Baker. Seitdem investiert sie viel Zeit und Geld, um das Schloss Larnach mit authentischen alten Möbeln wieder auf Vordermann zu bringen, wie in “The Royal Treatment” zu sehen. Wir sind sogar genau die gleiche Straße gefahren wie im Film!
