The last post about geothermic activities. This time with fantastic weather! Orakei Korako is a beautiful park on our way to Taupo.

Just before entering Taupo there are the Huka Falls. Again the origin of the name is Maori and means “foam”. The whole fall is 11 metres high and achieves a throughput of up to 220’000 litres per second.

Kurz vor Taupo befinden sich die Huka Falls. Auch hier ist der Ursprung des Namens Maori und bedeutet “Schaum”. Der gesamte Wasserfall ist 11 Meter hoch und erreicht einen Durchsatz von bis zu 220’000 Litern pro Sekunde.

Taupo is not only popular as a holiday destination for its central location on the north island but also for its huge lake, which is actually a caldera (collapsed volcano), and sporting activities on or in it.

Taupo ist nicht nur wegen seiner zentralen Lage auf der Nordinsel ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel, sondern auch wegen seines riesigen Sees, der eigentlich eine Caldera (eingestürzter Vulkan) ist, und der sportlichen Aktivitäten auf und in ihm.

Of course, one thing cannot be missed in Taupo: the “World’s Coolest McDonald’s” (self-proclaimed and verified by us).
